Description

The Soul Nebula... I don't know how many times I have tried to collect data on this target. Multiple times! The last one was pre-guiding on my HEQ-5 with DSLR and I remember I took a lot of images...just to be again disappointed.
Not this time. I got you!

This HII emission nebula is located in the constellation of Cassiopeia, on the left side of the W. An easy way to "locate" it for beginners and visual observation, is to project a line from the top right star in the W through the center star in the W towards the left by doubling the distance between the two stars and adding just a bit more or holding your hand stretched out and have your little finger cover the right star in W and your pointing finger stretched to the left. The distance between the fingers is approximately 15° and will bring you to the right spot.
The Soul Nebula or sometimes also called the Embryo Nebula and IC1848, related to the open clusters within, lies some 7,5 million LY from Earth. It is a waste star forming region interconnected with its neighbor, the Heart Nebula. The stars are less then a few million years old compared with our sun at approx 4.5 billion years.
It's neighbor, the Heart Nebula was discovered and cataloged by William Herschel in 1787. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any particular information when the Soul Nebula was discovered and by whom.
